Raw House Show 5/11/2010

Posted by: Mike

First things first, some big news for all you fans of the Man of 1004 Holds, The First Ever Undisputed Champion, the Paragon of Virtue, The Best in the World at What He Does! I am of course talking about Chris Jericho. The interview me and Leigh conducted with with the Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rollah last month is now available to download in Mass Movement Magazine Issue 28 at http://tinyurl.com/2vbqkde. I hope you all enjoy it, hopefully there'll be more interviews with your favourite WWE stars coming in the months ahead!

Myself and Leigh were lucky enough to take in a Raw House Show in the Cardiff International Arena on Bonfire Night this past week! Ironically the one place in the world that normally has fireworks every night of the year had none this night, but we still had an awesome time. Our seats weren't ideally positioned, but we still got to see the vast majority of the action. With much more star power than the last time I went to see a WWE show back in 2008, it was a really enjoyable show and I thought I'd post the results for you all to enjoy! Anyway, enough prattling, I have thoughts!

R-Truth defeated Alex Riley via pinfall (Lie Detector)

- I'm afraid, thanks to total douchebags standing right in front of us for pretty much the whole match, we didn't get to see much of this. Truth came out to his old theme music as opposed to 'Get Crunk'. Doesn't really make much difference to me one way or the other seeing as I can't stand either song. From what we saw though, this was a fun little match, and a good way to get the younger crowd into the show, the result was never really in doubt though!

Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov defeated The Usos via pinfall

- Bing! Justin Roberts has received an email from our anonymous General Manager. At this point I have a strong desire to punch Roberts in the throat, but I digress. According to the GM, The WWE Universe deserve to see a dance off between these four competitors, and what's more, the WWE Universe will be the judges. Santino and Kozlov go first and Kozlov actually looks to be enjoying himself, even busting out a very credible version of the worm for our enjoyment. The Usos unfortunately break up the fun by attacking Kozlov and Marella.

- I actually enjoyed this match, it wasn't a technical masterpiece, but it was a nice comedy match, and Santino is absolutely hilarious live, I can see why they keep him around. I feel bad for Kozlov though...

I became a U.S. Citizen for THIS?
Ezekiel Jackson defeated Zack Ryder via pinfall
 - As you would expect, this match lasted less than a minute, just a way to get Ezekiel out before the live crowd and look impressive. Hard to believe that Zack Ryder is the guy who (kayfabe) retired Tommy Dreamer isn't it? Still, as Leigh pointed out during the show, it must be nice for him to come out, not have to do any moves, be out for less than a few minutes, and get paid for it!

Goldust defeated Ted Dibiase Jr. via pinfall (Curtain Call)
- This match just felt like it was kinda 'there' to me... It was stopped half way through, because Goldust was busted open hardway from a Dibiase punch so they could clean up the blood. Eventually however, Goldust came back and got the pin with the Curtain Call suplex, which is very impressive looking live. Goldust is in the best shape of his career, and I'm really glad they're giving him something to do on television, because Lord knows, he deserves it! He's looking so much better than during his Black Rain days in TNA with 'Rellik'...

Daniel Bryan defeated William Regal to retain the United States Championship via submission (Labell Lock)

- I was fully expecting this to be the match of the night, and up until this point, it definitely was! Started off slow with some mat based wrestling and trading of holds, as you'd expect from two classically trained wrestlers. After about 7 minutes it got into the WWE style until the home stretch where they traded submission holds until Bryan got the win with the Labell Lock. It's amazing how over Daniel Bryan was, and I admit, Leigh and I marked like little girls when Ride of the Valkyries hit! Apparently these guys are going to work a program on Raw for the next few weeks, which I would be very happy with!
Randy Orton defeated Wade Barrett to retain the WWE Championship via pinfall (RKO)

- Before the match, Barrett cut a generic promo introducing himself as the fearless leader of the Nexus, the man who has single-handedly ruined John Cena's life, and the man who will beat Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. Very odd to have what you'd think would be the main event in the middle of the show...

- As expected, this match featured shenanigans (an awesome word) with John Cena. After a ref bump, Barrett ordered John Cena to come out, wearing a referee shirt. He orders Cena to attack Orton with a chair, to which Cena refuses. This gives Orton enough time to recover and surprise Barrett with the RKO for the victory.

Brie and Nikki Bella defeated Maryse and Alicia Fox via pinfall

- A typical diva's match, nothing to see here. Although I'm always happy to see Maryse, no matter how much Leigh may dislike her! Plus, watching Alicia Fox parade around in front of children like a hooker was disturbingly funny!

Your Undefined Women's Champion, ladies and gentlemen!

Sheamus defeated John Morrison via pinfall (Brogue Kick)

- Match of the night by far. Good back and forth match between the two with plenty of great near falls. The Starship Pain is very impressive to watch live, even if it didn't hit! I forsee big things in John Morrison's future! And that ain't no make believe! Incidently, Sheamus' victory at this show made him the first (and only) heel to win a match in Cardiff that night!

John Cena defeated The Miz w/ Alex Riley via pinfall (Attitude Adjustment)

- Before the match, Alex Riley informs the crowd that he has been signed to a 'personal services' contract. But what does that mean? It means he washes The Miz's socks, and folds his underwear! He does these things because he likes to!

- The Miz steals the microphone and does his usual schtick of telling the crowd that he is the fastest rising star in the WWE. He said he'd win the Tag Team Championships, he did! He said he'd win the United States Championship, he did! He said he'd become Mr. Money in the Bank, and hey look, he is! BECAUSE HE'S THE MIZ...

- NO! NO NO NO NO NO! We don't get to do his catchphrase! We haven't earned that right! If we want to say something, we will raise our hands, and wait our turn! And why? BECAUSE HE'S THE MIZ, AND HE'S... AWWWWWWWESOME!

- This brings out John Cena, who stands in the ring and raises his hand, like a good little tool. He has something to say... 'You're the Miz, and you suck!' With this, he drops the mic and goes on the offensive!

- This was a fun main event, with the finish coming after Miz accidently attacks A-Ri with the MITB Briefcase while the referee was distracted, leading to the finish. A nice match, but not quite up to the standard of John Morrison vs. Sheamus before it. After the match, John Cena gets on the mic and apologises to Wade Barrett's father, who is apparently in attendance. He apologises for the ass-whipping he's going to give Barrett at Survivor Series. With that, the show ends as John Cena holds up a Welsh flag for a cheap pop from the crowd.

- Overall, an awesome show, a good amount of star power and alot of fun. I could have done without the screaming 7 year olds behind me, but what can you do?

Match of the Night

John Morrison vs. Sheamus

Trash of the Night

Zack Ryder vs. Ezekiel Jackson

Until next time remember...

Rellik is 'Killer' spelt backwards! Didn't know that? Don't worry, Mike Tenay is here to inform us, at least three times per show!
