NXT - Season Three Episode One
Urghghghghghg where to start?!?
The first two seasons of NXT were nowhere near as groundbreaking as they were made out to be. I was expecting something that along the lines of the UFC's 'Ultimate Fighter'. Instead we got a series of goofy challenges and some fairly poor wrestling from the likes of David Otunga, Titus O'Niell et al. Of course the first two seasons also brought us American Dragon Bryan Danielson...I mean Bryan Daniel, Wade Barratt and Kaval.
The first episode of the Divas-only season three was one of the worst hours of television that I have ever seen. The Divas (God I hate that term) division in the WWE is taken seriously by less than 0.01% of the 'WWE Universe' (I hate that term even more), and probably taken even less seriously by the WWE writing staff.
So what do we get upon the rookie females first walk into the NXT ring? Michael Cole informing us of their reading habits, or the fact they like to play video games. Oh, thanks for that, Cole, I'll keep that in mind when watching this search for the 'WWE's next breakout star'. We are then subjected to a camp, unfunny dance competition where Michael Cole took great pleasure in putting himself over (nothing new here) and the rookies being judged on their dancing abilities. The show got no better from here. Botches in the very small time allotted to actual wrestling, another lame competition and awful mic work.
If the WWE want us to take women's wrestling seriously then this show will not help. What they've actually done is taken a PPV pissbreak and elongated it into an hour long show. It can only get better...I hope.
